About the Artist

Denis Jean’s jewelry evokes the simple colors of the forest floor and vast flower fields of the Southern Quebec summers of his childhood. Some of it speaks to his Native American origins.  His academic training in surrealism guides his stone-cutting where serendipity plays a certain role. Others say this shaman hears the language of the stones he cuts. He trained as a silversmith under the Latvian Normunds Treijs and his daughter Amanda, both colleagues at Hofstra University. He shares his Catskill studio with his partner, Tina de Bellegarde, a glass artist. When not in his studio, he may be found tending his bees, ballooning with Tina and their friend Michael Caccavale or watching his son Mathieu paint.
